California Says: “You’re On Your Own”
What would you do if you received a letter saying your treatment was no longer covered?
California is sending notices to Medi-Cal Rx beneficiaries who are living with obesity with a disturbing message: you’re on your own.
The letter states that Medi-Cal Rx will roll back Medicaid coverage of anti-obesity medications (AOMs), making it harder to tackle this chronic health issue. Obesity is one of the leading contributors to chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and hypertension, illnesses that drive up costs for families and our health system. It’s clear that expanding access to AOMs is both equitable and the right economic choice.
But in California, those who are living with this disease are being stripped of their access to lifesaving medications, disrupting the treatment plan prescribed by their doctor and forcing them to return to lifestyle changes that often don’t work on their own.

It’s not too late for California to correct course. Our collective pressure on lawmakers matters, and right now they need to hear from voices like yours.
Share this message with your circle of friends to increase awareness around this urgent need and help us tell Gov. Gavin Newsom to remove barriers to obesity treatment now.
